The Chia plant (Salvia hispanica) is native to Mexico and parts of South and Central America. The little black and white seeds were once an important source of nutrition for the ancient Aztecs. What is special about Chia Seeds is its high content of essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. They also contain high quality protein, minerals, many vitamins and a high amount of fiber, which have in combination with its swelling properties a positive effect on digestion and bowel function.
The seeds can be sprinkled directly onto salads, fruits or spreads or added to dressings, cereals, soups, smoothies, yoghurt or baking mixtures.
