Beta carotene, also known as provitamin A, has multifaced functions in a horse’s metabolism. It is important for the eyesight, the normal funktion of the skin and mucosa, as well as for a normal and healthy immune system. The beta carotene and trace elements content in hay or basic feed can be too low due to a long storing time, depleted soil or droughts. A deficiency can damage the hooves, skin and mucosa, lead to a compromised immune system or to breeding failures. To prevent a deficiency or in case of an increased need – e.g. for weakened or older horses, for riding and in preparation of breeding – a supplement with beta carotene in combination with organic selenium and vitamin E is recommended.
Only 4 tablets contain as much beta carotene as 500 g of fresh carrots and cover the daily need of an adult horse.
